In 2021, two candidates — Kathryn Garcia and Andrew Yang — forged an alliance, and he encouraged his supporters to put her second on their ballots. When he finished fourth and was eliminated, many of his votes went to Garcia. Adams beat Garcia by only about 7,200 votes.
